Aguilar is a Redlands councilmember serving as mayor.

Aguilar is the owner of a government affairs consulting firm.

2011: Aguilar is president of the League of California Cities, Inland Empire Division.

2009: Aguilar was appointed by the speaker of the state Assembly to serve as one of 5 statewide directors to the Consumer Motor Vehicle Recovery Corporation.

2007: Aguilar won a citywide election to serve on the Redlands City Council.

2006: Aguilar was appointed to serve in a vacated seat on the Redlands City Council.

July 2001: Aguilar was appointed by then-Governor Gray Davis as deputy director for the Inland Empire Regional Office of the Governor in July 2001. Later Aguilar served as interim director.

Aguilar was director of governmental relations for Arrowhead Credit Union.

Aguilar earned degrees in Government and Business Administration from the University of Redlands.
